Warm Weather, Shifting Moods

By Michael Colin, LPC, LMAC, CCTP, NCC

Longer days and warmer nights can lift spirits—but they can also play tricks on your mental health.

Sleep struggles: Hot nights make it harder to rest, leaving you irritable or foggy the next day. Keep your bedroom cool and use light bedding.

Mood swings: Heat and humidity can increase anxiety or restlessness. Hydrate, take breaks, and try calming routines like deep breathing.

Overloaded schedules: Summer brings more activities and social plans. It’s okay to say no and protect your downtime.

Know your triggers: Some people feel heightened anxiety or low mood during warmer months. Check in with yourself and reach out if needed.

Small steps—like staying cool, hydrated, and mindful—help you enjoy the sunshine without sacrificing your mental well-being.

If taking care of your mental health in these summer months is important to you, schedule an appointment with Michael Colin, 913-286-7640 or Michaelcolin.doorsofhope@gmail.com, or another one of our experts today!
