Amy Phalen
Amy Phalen is completing her master’s degree in counseling psychology at the University of Kansas. Amy completed her B.S. in Management and Marketing at Kansas State University, and she is grateful for her 30+ years in business spanning time in Corporate Retail, Advertising Sales within the IT industry, and helping others achieve their business and career goals through her consulting business, Phalen Marketing.
Amy is thrilled about the opportunity to work with clients through Doors of Hope and to learn from the existing team of experts. Her journey is built on the foundation that everyone has value just as they are and everyone deserves to heal. Amy applies an integrative approach to therapy with the most important factor being you the client. This approach blends Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Positive Psychology and Strengths Based Therapy. Amy is also gaining experience in EFT couples counseling.
Amy enjoys working with adults and college students; her areas of clinical interest include but are not limited to depression, anxiety, grief, and life transitions and works to provide a welcoming space where people feel safe and heard. Amy’s training in Positive Psychology and Strength-Based therapy allows her to walk alongside clients as they navigate a path that acknowledges their struggles and challenges while also using their strengths and resources to work toward the very life they were meant to live.
Amy’s faith informs her practice reinforcing the unique value in every single person; she understands faith and spirituality are personal and will incorporate faith into therapy as directed by the client.
In her free time, Amy enjoys being outdoors, reading, walking, and swimming and spending time with her husband of 26 years and her two sons.
As a student, Amy practices under the supervision of licensed clinician, Rachael DeKoning; with this, the clients receive the benefit of the experience of multiple practitioners. Amy is currently accepting new clients at a reduced fee. You can reach Amy by email (amy.doorsofhope@gmail.com) or by phone 913-712-4412 ext. 118 or through the ‘contact us’ page on the website.
